We used to have a hickory nut tree in our yard when I was growing up. We'd gather them and give 'em to my grandma and she'd crack them while she watched TV or listened to the radio. Then she'd make some cookies with them and send them our way. I'm pretty sure they weren't as delish as these, though! Awesome photos, too!

Well if I could start a Hickory nut business I would! We get ours at our local market. I have also heard that they are hard to crack open and very time consuming... but worth the effort. In searching... I found a website to the very same gentleman I purchased the nuts from... here it is.

I've actually never eaten hickory nuts, but I'm pretty sure they grow around here. From what I've heard, their shells are very hard to crack open. I wonder why they're not widely available like walnuts and pecans...I may have to go on an internet search for them, as these cookies sound and look delicious! Thanks for sharing :)

I don't think I've tasted a hickory nut, or even seen them, come to think about it. I don't think we have hickory trees here in the Pacific Northwest. My family is in Spring Green though, so I'll have to ask them about hickory nuts when I get a chance.
